Come and join us for a day trip to Magaliesburg on a heritage locomotive and coaches, preserved and crewed with care by a dedicated group of volunteers.

We are now using also a very exciting new picnic area called Magalies Sleepy River.  This venue is 10 min from the station by bus.  The cost of the bus fare is R75.00 per adult, R40.00 per child (between the ages of 4 to 12) and children under the age of 4 are free.  The bus fare will be collected from you on the train on the day of the train trip.  The venue has an excellent braai area, fully licensed kiosk where they sell ice cold drinks, soft drinks and ice creams.  They also sell wood and ice. The ablution blocks are kept clean the whole day.  They have a lovely big, sparkling, cold water swimming pool, jungle gyms, lots of large mowed grass and more.   You can also buy a ticket for helicopter flips from Capital Air at the picnic area.  The cost per flip is R250.00.  There will soon be a mini market at the facilities.  For further information, please go onto the website www.magaliessleepyriver.co.za.  Please bring your swimming costumes and towels with you as well as camping chairs and picnic blanket.

Supervised cab visits are available once the crews have finished servicing the locomotive.
The return journey is the highlight of the day for the passengers, as the climb from Magaliesburg to Krugersdorp is really challenging for the locomotive with all the steep gradients and sharp curves encountered. The locomotives have to work really hard on this section, with the most enjoyable sounds (for the enthusiast) coming from the locomotive. It is said that there is only one man made machine that can express it's emotions, and that's a steam locomotive. Sit back, relax and listen then you'll hear it talking to you...

Please note that there is a no smoking policy on our train, which is in line with the Government's policy on smoking in public areas. Reefsteamers coaches are 'Right of Admission Reserved', thus we reserve the right to ask you to disembark at any point on the journey should you have not paid for the trip or be causing discomfort to other passengers due to unruly behaviour. Steam can be substituted by diesels as last resort when all steam traction is down because of unexpected failure or maintenance
